My Favorite Season is Here!
Fall is by far my time to thrive. The colors, the crisp air, the food, coffee, painting. I am about to embark on some super cool projects. One is a commission for an amzing couple, Karyn and Matt. The other (so far) is teaching my painting course at the Shatford Centre--the group I have registered is exciting in itself. Can't wait to see what October will bring! Also I am delivering Vienna's butterfly, so stoked to see how it pops in her funky room.

Live Painting Show with Ari Neufeld

The amazing Ari Neufeld, a fellow Penticton artist and friend, asked me to join him in his performance at the Streaming Cafe in Kelowna, B.C. to celebrate the release of his CD/DVD, "Live at the Dream Cafe". Clips of the show can be viewed currently online at www.streamingcafe.net
Being my second ever live portrait (the first was last year at Ari's show at the Dream Cafe) I was extremely nervous leading into it as portraits are such an intimate experience for me, but what's life without putting yourself outside your comfort zone? Big thanks to my husband Charlie and one of my closest friends on the planet, Deanne for allowing calm to take over as I started painting what is my favorite portrait to date.

Neufeld Plays for My Last Class at Leir House
"Paint as if you are a musician jamming with an instrument--this is the mark of true creative expression." This is something I try to emphasize to my students and so I naturally lept at the chance to have an accomplished local singer/songwriter to play on a very special evening at the Leir House Renaissance Studio this past Thursday. For this final class after three amazing years in this space teaching both beginner and intermediate adult painting lessons, I asked the spectacular Ari Neufeld to bless the little building and the painters working within it with his gift of soulful song. This was actually the second time Ari agreed to donate his time and talents all in the name of art during my sessions this year through Okanagan School of the Arts. It is the perfect compliment to the type of painting I strive to bring out in people--unique, passionate, real, felt, and true.
Again I found myself vibrating with that collective creative rush that occurs when the space is not only filled with artists working on their craft, but also a musician inspiring us even further.
Ari, I can't thank-you enough and I know you enriched all of our experiences painting in that quaint little studio. Visit his website http://www.arineufeld.sayvee.com/
